Writings on photography 1921-1968
A classic of modern photography can be rediscovered in an edition of his writings. Throughout his life, Raoul Hausmann tried in theory and practice to understand photography as a new form of seeing. For him, it represented the possibility of perceiving and then depicting reality in a different, lively, exciting and previously unseen way. Over a period of almost fifty years, he has continually tackled new projects: the spectrum ranges from plant, landscape and nude photographs to photo reports, photomontages and infrared photographs to ethnographic and experimental images.
The volume brings together all of Hausmann's surviving texts on photography. Many of them - such as an extensive manuscript on infrared photography - are published here for the first time. This comprehensively explores and presents the theoretical work of one of the most important photographers of modern times.
