Our world is rapidly losing diversity. Multinational corporations are taking over city centers and turning them into uniform shopping and entertainment zones. There is hardly a metropolis in which McDonald's, Starbucks, Zara, Apple & Co. do not dominate the image of the main streets and squares. And individuals themselves have long since submitted to this equalization requirement, wearing what the big fashion chains hang on the shelves, drinking what is advertised as hip, and dancing to the sounds created by the US hit studios.
Martin Kulinna knows that this march into monotony is almost impossible to stop. But that is precisely why he persistently travels with his camera to those places where cultural diversity is not only claimed but actually lived. His pictures show us people who are bucking the global trend, who hold on to the rituals and customs of their ancestors and who proudly assert themselves as an independent community of values with their costumes, dances and songs.
