For 30 years, photographer Martin Kulinna has been drawn to the Baltic Sea. He is fascinated by the interplay of the elements: water, sky, and earth. The Baltic Sea – the Mare Balticum – is an inland sea of the Atlantic Ocean in Europe.

Around 70 million people live on its coasts, linked by a varied history. The country on the Baltic Sea is vast. No high mountains or ranges obscure the view of the sea; the sky is blue with a distinctive gray that can only be found here. The sea leaves its mark. It shapes the people as much as it does the architecture on its coasts. This illustrated book shows selected places and situations on the Baltic Sea: for example, the motorcycle-riding women on the island of Kihnu, who manage their daily lives on the island while their husbands are at sea or working on the mainland; the rock formations on the Swedish island of Fårö; and the wide amber beaches of Latvia.
