For 30 years, photographer Martin Kulinna has been drawn to the Baltic Sea. He is fascinated by the interplay of the elements: water, sky, earth. The Baltic Sea - the Mare Balticum - is an inland sea of the Atlantic in Europe.
Around 70 million people live on its coasts, and they are connected by an eventful history. The country on the Baltic Sea is vast. No high mountains or mountain ranges obstruct the view of the sea, the sky is blue with an unmistakable grey that can only be found here. The sea leaves its mark. It shapes the people just as much as the architecture on its coasts. The illustrated book shows selected places and situations on the Baltic Sea: for example, the women riding motorbikes on the island of Kihnu, who manage their everyday lives on the island while their husbands are at sea or working on the mainland; the rock formations on the Swedish island of Fårö or the wide amber beaches of Latvia.
