For example, they clean the surfaces of films and free the film strips of electrical charge carriers, or effectively remove dust from expensive lenses without endangering the coating with scratches.
The larger brushes are also ideal for removing dust and electrical charges from glass panes, plastic surfaces, etc. The image, film or printing plate are thus dust-free and statically neutralized. They therefore become dirty much more slowly, as there is no electrical charge attracting the dust again.
