Techniques and projects with cyanotype
Cyanotype is a historical photographic technique whose artistic possibilities are still fascinating today. The images are simply exposed in the sun and then developed and fixed with water - you don't need a camera or a darkroom. You'll always experience atmospheric surprises - depending on the type of paper, application of the solution or exposure time, the whole palette of our "color of distance, longing and freedom" is created, from sky blue to almost turquoise to ultramarine or deep midnight blue.
In addition to the basics of classic cyanotype, Marlis Maehrle shows many ideas for experimenting with light and shadow and gives tips for working in an environmentally friendly way. Cyanotypes on fabric, wood and other materials or toning with natural tannins from coffee or tea are also presented.
The resulting images are works of art in their own right, but can also be used for projects such as cards, book covers or gift wrapping.
- The big book on cyanotype: a traditional technique that fascinates again today.
- The richness of blue tones: inspiration for experienced and new enthusiasts.
- Marlis Maehrle also presents new creative, environmentally friendly possibilities.
