The recipe for this legendary photo paper from Forte would have been lost in the digital revolution if ADOX had not saved the production technology. In ten years of development work, ADOX has succeeded in recreating this beige-green, high-resolution emulsion with a genuine vintage look and outstanding toning properties.
Now it is also available to create artistic works on various surfaces.
The fixed contrast of 2.5 was chosen in order to be able to perfectly reproduce most negatives.
With a bottle of 300ml you can coat approx. 2.5-3 sqm (depending on the application quantity - information applies to 1mm wet application).
Processing instructions
Coating with photo emulsion:
+++++Attention: Only open the packaging in a darkroom under red protective light! ++++
The liquid photo emulsion is soft and gelatinous in the bottle.
To use it you must:
- Warm up to approx. 42-45°C
- After application, dry thoroughly in complete darkness (maximum exposure to protective light 2 minutes. ADOX SUPERSAFE maximum 10 minutes)
- Hardened during processing to withstand mechanical influences/contact
Adhesion to surfaces
The best binder is ADOX Colloida C photo gelatine. It is easy to process in light to prepare and later coat all surfaces such as paper, glass, textiles or even stones.
ADOX COLLOIDA C is the same high purity photo gelatin that we use to produce Polywarmtone photo emulsion. Generic gelatins pose a high risk of clouding the emulsion.
ADOX Art Baryta is a pre-coated paper onto which you can apply the photo emulsion directly without first coating.
Hardening of the emulsion
If you only want to coat paper - without further processing such as toning - you do not necessarily need to use hardener. The emulsion dries and adheres quite well. In most cases, however, it is advisable or necessary to use the hardener ADOX EMH-1 . It produces an acidic hardening bath which replaces the stop bath. If damage to the coated material occurs during the developer (e.g. with glass plates), it is advisable to use the hardening bath before the developer (1-2 minutes). After that, the film should be watered before development. The hardening process can also be carried out after the fixation.
Tip
If you only want to use part of the emulsion, it is advisable to fill it into a separate light-tight bottle before heating it.
To do this, use our light-tight black chemical bottle 300ml.
